Basic principle of tracking and positioning cables

working mode

fluke-2042 cable detector includes a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter provides a modulated AC voltage to the corresponding cable, which will generate an electric field around the cable; The receiver is equipped with a coil. If the receiver is placed close to the corresponding electrical conductor, the flux line will pass through the coil and enter the receiver. This phenomenon is also called penetrating coil. A small voltage will be generated in the circle, and the electronic circuit of the receiver will calculate this voltage and display it on the display screen. The special feature of fluke-2042 is that the transmitted signal is digitally encoded. This can ensure that the signal can be clearly received by the receiver, which can avoid false display caused by any interference field (such as electronic fluorescent lamp ballast or frequency converter)

generally speaking, there are two different application principles

application without voltage

typical applications are to locate switches and junction boxes that are accidentally covered by wall paint. Almost anyone is familiar with such a situation: install switches and junction boxes, 266 doors and roller shutters, and wear the cables used in the new equipment. After painting the wall with paint, you can't find all the sockets

in this case, it is sufficient to apply a signal to any wire in the cable that needs to be tracked. The other pole of the signal transmitter is connected to the ground potential through a ground wire. It is very important to ensure the drying of building materials

applications with voltage

there are often no labels on the circuits of old systems. In order to avoid accidentally disconnecting the wrong power supply, it is necessary to match the correct safety device with the corresponding circuit

2042 cable detectors can also be used in this case. Connect the signal transmitter directly between the phase line and the zero line according to the formula (see Figure 3). In this case, the signal detection intensity will generally decrease. The AC voltage and the electric flux of the signal transmitter will affect each other. However, in this case, since the cable can be directly contacted at the open distribution box, the reduced tracking depth is not very important

in order to successfully locate the cable in this type of application, the principle of this working mode must be understood theoretically. Take a covered socket as an example. In this case, the lighting socket is often the only place where the cable can be contacted. From the socket, the signal of the transmitter is sent to the cable

Now, track the corresponding cable until the signal is not received. The operator can manually adjust the sensitivity of the receiver. According to the depth of installation in the wall, the sensitivity on the receiver must be increased or reduced. Once the signal is received, the receiver will display the letter "F" and the strength of the received signal

in addition, three different transmission strengths can be set on the signal transmitter. In this way, the group with the largest △ vs value is the low precision group. Track the cable until it reaches the end and locate it to the corresponding junction box or switch box. Good grounding of the transmitter output signal is very important for voltage free applications. The signal should not be received on the cable connected to the ground

reinforced concrete is likely to play the role of grounding shield and will not receive signals. It is recommended that the known system be actually tested before the first field operation.
